Before heading to Japan, we met up with the boys from @bakerysnowboards for a wintercollaboration. Drawing inspiration from a previous adventure in Japan a decision was made to develop, design and create a unique powderboard that would accompany us on this trip - The Shinto.

Bakery Snowboards is located at the doorsteps of the alps. With passion for high performance and sustainable materials like bamboo cores, ecological resin and long living bases. They are creating unique, handmade custom snowboards from their snowboard factory in Munich, Germany.

Starting back in 2014, spending the first year constructing their snowboard press. Little by little they extended their factory until it was ready to launch its first big production in 2018.

Before venturing into this exciting craftsmanship both Michi and Hannes each worked constrained within an office. But the desire to create and work with their hands was always in the back of their mind.

Starting out in shaping surfboards from sheer will and through the small surf workshops they saw along their travels it inspired them to start something similar. With these smaller operations they noticed how common it was to have privately owned factories. Yet, it didin’t seem as common regarding designing and building snowboards.

Living on the threshold to the mountains and not the ocean, the original project plan took a turn. From shaping surfboards ”Bakerysnowboards” came to light.

The main vision and focus behind the production is keeping the craft at home. Since the majority of production takes place cross the world somewhere in Asia. Sustainability and keeping it local felt natural in todays global society.
